October is PACKED

Welcome to October! We’re excited to share events, our first art giveaway, and a sneak peek into our new service.

Events

This will be our last set of in-person events this 2024, so we hope you can join us!

Anime USA - Oct 11-13 - Hyatt Regency Crystal City, Arlington, VA

Like our previous shows, we’ll be eager to meet you and other artists at this convention! Fun fact: Anime USA was the first convention we attended together when we immigrated to the US. Returning here as a vendor feels like it’s come full circle. Our table will have fanart and original art prints and stickers for sale. Our newest print will be of Momo from DAN DA DAN, an anime debuting in October. Here’s the catalog:

Gallery Opening - Oct 19 - The PARC at Tysons, Tysons, VA

We got accepted into the PARC Art Gallery to share our original illustrations. The cover illustration is the centerfold here: Organ Donors (2024), a piece that advocates for organ donation as a form of heroism. This illustrated piece will be accompanied by Sampaguita & Stripes (2024) and Homesickness (2024), two familiar pieces from The Immigrant Experience. Proceeds from this exhibition will go to support local arts programs in the county through Celebrate Fairfax and mosaicARTs.

Library Reception - Oct 29 - Columbia Pike Library, Arlington, VA

We’re thrilled to be part of the new Arlington arts program, the Incubator.

Our new showing, The Immigrant Experience, inaugurated the series “to help serve as an all-ages catalyst that will allow community members—ranging from teens to older adults—to participate in creative community dialogue and to express themselves.” Proceeds from this exhibit support public library programs in Arlington.

You can imagine how humbled we felt when our local newspaper covered the exhibit opening. You can read the article and interview here: Falls Church Graphic Artist’s First Show Through Public Library Incubator Program (fallschurchindependent.com) The library will host a reception where you can meet us and learn more about the gallery’s inspiration.

Art Giveaway

We’re so grateful for this growing community, so we want to express our thanks. This is our first time giving away a free, custom illustration to a lucky follower!

To join, jump on our Instagram announcement here for the rules: ART by COURAGE | Graphic Novels & Illustrations (@artbycourage) • Instagram photos and videos. The giveaway closes on Oct 5, Sat at 5 PM EDT. We’ll pick the winner on Oct 6, Sun at 9 AM EDT. We hope you can join us! If you miss this, don’t worry; we’ll look at doing art giveaways on our other platforms.

Outside of this, we’ll be posting tons of new original illustrations as part of the art challenges this October.

New Service

This has been an eventful first year of operations since we started our studio. After October, we’re taking a holiday break to plan and focus our creative strategy towards our ethos: instilling courage through visual storytelling. We’ve accomplished a lot with our products through events like Fairfax Comic-Con where we turned our first profit and Small Press Expo where we debuted the pilot issue of our original graphic novel BLACK BOX.

But we don’t want to stop there.

Unique to our social sciences backgrounds and work experiences, we’ll be developing a new creative service to empower communities to tell their stories with technical worldbuilding. Briefly, this means we’ll create materials that support in-depth worldbuilding for any medium with real-world logic. We aim to help other aspiring creatives take the courageous leap into the arts as we did and uplift the integration of the arts with the sciences. Stay tuned for more info about our new service launching soon!

Thank you for being a part of this journey with ART by COURAGE. We hope you’ll join us for our events, giveaway, and new service. Wishing everyone a Happy Filipino American History Month as well as a Happy LGBTQ History Month!
